What a prayer!

Filed under: Fun (Jokes etc) — Steve (Chessiq) @ 10:12 pm

My friend, Catdiva, forwarded me something that was funny: Why Women don’t take men on vacation. Being a man, I wondered why I hadn’t been taken on vacation yet – hint! ;-) Anyway, it was funny – men posing for the pictures of a life time(!)

At the end, there was this prayer that I could not resist sharing:

Dear Lord,
I pray for Wisdom to understand my man;

Love to forgive him;
And Patience for his moods;
Because Lord, if I pray for Strength,

I’ll beat him to death.
Amen!

The power of 2 minutes – (30 things I can do in 2 minutes)

I have been reading Tim Allen’s Getting Things Done for a while. One of the things that has stuck in my mind is the Question: Can this be done in 2 minutes?
I have been trying to do all things that can be done in two minutes. So here are some of the things that I can do in two minutes or less that I have not done before because I thought they would take longer or they would be a pain to do.
1. Get out of bed!
2. Wash a dish (if you let them accumulate, they take longer. If you wash just what you have used, it takes 30 seconds!)
3. Call a friend to see how he or she is doing.
4. Write a to-do-list
5. Play through one chess game at chessgames.com
6. Think through a chess move (It saves heartache later on if you take the time to look.)
7. Postpone reading email (at work or during study).
8. Stay away from the computer.
9. Eat/prepare breakfast (before leaving for work or school).
10. Glab/pack lunch.
11. Read an email.
12. Reply to an email.
13. Ask for help.
14. Look for information before …. (whatever, driving off!)
15. Clean my desk.
16. Make the bed.
17. Open mail and decide what to do about it.
18. Check that I have my keys, wallet, and cell phone before heading out.
19. Turning off the lights, computer, tv, etc when nobody is using them.
20. Balancing the check book
21. Seeing what is due in the next 3 days.
22. Paying a bill.
23. Praying.
23. Reading something nice/positive.
24. Counting my blessings.
25. Power-up (whether it’s regrouping, reflecting, taking a break, etc).
26. Double-checking stuff (that the car is locked, that the math is right, that you cannot figure it out yourself, do I have all the paperwork I need? etc)
27. Listen
28. Think
29. Put food in the fridge before I go to bed or leave the house.
30. Say? I am sorry. Or We can do this! Or Let’s work things out! Or… What was I thinking! Or Just laugh at myself ;-)
Do you have more examples of stuff that can be done in two minutes? Please share!

What I am thankful for today

Filed under: Thanksgiving — Steve (Chessiq) @ 9:06 pm

I have decided to start a series of posts that will talk about what I am thankful for each day. Some days I may repeat myself (for example, I will be thankful that I am alive, til I die). Some days, I will forget or omit something, but that does not mean that I am not thankful for something, for example, my family and friends.
So, what I am thankful for today?

- Life
- Family and friends
- Work
- Good health
- Money
- Things (Internet, phone, apartment, car, clothes, food, books, tv, furniture, etc)
- Sight/Vision (ability to see)
- My mind (ability to think/reason/learn)
- Feelings (physical and emotional)
- Skills (Chess, typing, talking, languages, tennis, basketball, etc)
- Education
- Safety/security
- Freedom
- Knowledge of God
- Love
- Good looks (it could be worse! ;-) )
- Sense of humor
- Insurance
- Little debt
- Goals
- My blogs
- Life experiences
- Hope for the future
- That I am here (place)
- Hearing (I guess all the five senses – sight, smell, hearing, feeling, taste?)
-Who I am.
